Jamie Rothenburger<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Dr. Rothenburger is an anatomic veterinary pathologist and clinician-scientist at the University of Calgary<\/a>, and an active science communicator. Her research spans wild and domestic species, with a particular focus on wildlife diseases and zoonotic pathogens (infections that spread from animals to people). Through her work with the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative, she contributes to wildlife health surveillance and disease management across Canada.<\/p>


Her research program integrates veterinary pathology with One Health frameworks and cross-disciplinary collaboration to address complex disease challenges at the interface of wildlife, domestic animals and people. As a collaborating veterinary pathologist, she contributes specialized expertise to a broad range of animal research programs spanning diverse species and systems. Her scholarly work, teaching, and public engagement reflect a commitment to producing impactful, applied knowledge.<\/p>


Dr. Rothenburger\u2019s research excellence has been recognized by several prestigious awards. She received the D. F. Forster Doctoral Medal from the University of Guelph and the Governor General\u2019s Academic Gold Medal, Canada\u2019s highest academic honour for graduate students. She was the first student from the Ontario Veterinary College<\/a> to receive this distinction in over 30 years.<\/p>


She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM)<\/a>, University of Saskatchewan, in 2010, followed by a Master of Veterinary Science in 2013 and senior residency training in anatomic pathology in 2014. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists<\/a> (Anatomic Pathology) in 2015 and completed a PhD in Pathobiology at the University of Guelph in 2018.<\/p>


As an active and passionate science communicator, Dr. Rothenburger engages both scientific and public audiences through writing and media. Since 2011, she has authored more than 200 animal health columns for The Western Producer<\/a>, Canada\u2019s largest agricultural publication, reaching up to 300,000 readers monthly. Her work translates complex veterinary and One Health topics into accessible, evidence-based information for audiences including livestock producers and the general public. She is frequently interviewed by national media outlets such as CBC, Global News, and The Canadian Press, reflecting her role as a trusted voice on animal health and zoonotic disease.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
